"Affricae Tabula Nova", Munster/Petri
Period: 1588 (circa)
Color: Black & White
14.2 x 11.8 inches
36.1 x 30 cm
From the new set of maps Petri introduced into Munster's Cosmographia, this map is largely based on the work of Ortelius. The coastline is very jagged with prominent bays, and large lakes dot the interior. The eastern coastline of Brazil is also depicted. Block style title cartouche. Two tiny ships and a sea monster decorate the map. German title in top margin and on verso is a bit of text with a large woodblock illustration.

Trimmed into bottom border, as issued. Light scattered foxing and two small wormholes in map. Still a presentable example.
