This is a facsimile copy of the first edition (1624) of John Smith's epic tale of adventure in the New World. This book has always been more than a history of Virginia. With its stories of Pocahontas, it made an indelible impression on American folklore and popular belief. Includes a 14 page booklet containing a historical introduction by A.L. Rowse, and bibliographical notes by Robert O. Dougan. Large quarto, faux vellum, gilt on the spine, gilt-stamped coat of arms of James I on the front board, cloth ties, 1 folding map, 248 pages. Housed in clamshell box covered in gray buckram with paper label facsimile of the title page, lined in blue velvet. A sumptuous publication.
