Ten chromolithograph plates from one of the most important early works on Native Americans. Catlin was an American artist and traveler who devoted himself to using his art to illustrate the customs of the American Indian. He painted over 600 pictures of the people and their cultural life from 48 different tribes. The work was first published in 1841 and reissued several times, including this fine edition of chromolithographs. The plates include portraits of chiefs and warriors, landscapes, dances and games from several different tribes. A very colorful and fine set.
