Interesting scene of a village visited by Captain James Cook at Waimea, Kauai. The village of thatched huts is set against the lush background that is now Waimea Canyon State Park. This view was originally drawn and engraved by John Webber who was the expedition's artist. Shortly after the return of the expedition to England, copies of the engravings were smuggled to Paris and a French issue of the third voyage was published in Paris. The engravings copied by the French engraver Benard, and are of equal quality to the original English edition, printed on strong hand-made paper.
