This account of Louisiana Territory was written in an attempt to demonstrate its importance as a colony. It provides a view of the French holdings just prior to Jefferson's purchase, a history of the French occupation of Louisiana, observations on Negro slavery and the native Indian tribes, and vocabularies of the Dacotah and Chippeway Indians. Includes a folding map "Louisiane et Pays Voisins…"(14 x 9.3") by L. Collin. 8vo, viii, 382 pp. Contemporary quarter calf, with gilt titles on spine.

Contents bright and clean with a bit of light foxing to first few leaves. Folding map lightly foxed with a short binding tear. Covers slightly scuffed, spine starting to crack at bottom, corners bumped.
