A lovely scene with three Painted Spurfowl; a mature pair and an immature male. These lovely Indian partridges have spotted rust, brown and black plumage. John Gould created some of the most beautiful bird prints ever produced and was known throughout the world as "The Bird Man". These superb, hand colored, stone lithographs are from his last great work. During his long career Gould employed the best lithographers to transfer his sketches onto stone. This plate is the work of H. C. Richter.
