A detailed map of the pre-Civil War United States showing evolving territorial configurations in the west. Arizona now occupies the southern half of New Mexico Territory, Utah is in its largest extent, and Nebraska Territory occupies the region between the Continental Divide and the Missouri River. Oregon and Washington extend to the Rockies.
