This copper-engraved map is Chatelain's version of Guillaume Delisle’s foundation map covering southern Africa. It is finely engraved with detail, especially the tribal kingdoms, and there are numerous references to gold mines. A text block at lower right describes the Congo, Monomotapa and Kaffraria.
A crisp impression on a bright sheet with a Strasburg Bend & Lily watermark and some errant color in the border at left and bottom. There is a short centerfold separation at top and another centerfold separation at bottom that extends to the Tropic of Capricorn that has been closed on verso with archival tape.
