This beautifully engraved title page is from the Visscher family's atlas covering the Netherlands. It depicts seventeen maidens (one for each of the Dutch provinces) and two putti gathered around the base of a statue of a woman holding a globe and calipers, representing Geography. Engraved by Gerard de Lairesse.

Condition: A

A fine impression on a sheet with a fleur-de-lis coat of arms watermark and gilt highlights. Trimmed margins, still adequate for framing. Remnants of hinge tape on verso.
