This world atlas is complete with 56 maps and an engraving of flags of nations around the world. The maps include: 4 world maps, celestial hemispheres, solar system, 20 maps of Europe, 8 maps of Asia, 3 maps of Africa, 10 maps of North America, 4 maps of South America, 3 maps of Australia and the South Pacific, and 2 maps of the ancient world. The world map in hemispheres features comparative views of the rivers and mountains around the world. The map of the United States shows Washington extending east to the Rocky Mountains, an interestingly shaped Idaho that encompasses Wyoming, and a large Dacotah Territory encompassing Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota. A small supplementary map of North America has been inserted in this edition showing United States after Cession of Russian-America, April 1867. This volume also includes a 70-page index and 29 pages of introductory text with information on geography, population, agriculture, and history of various parts of the world. Large foilo. Quarter maroon leather with tips over maroon cloth covered boards with gilt title on front cover; raised bands, gilt tooling and gilt title on spine.

Condition: B+

The maps are all in very good condition with minor soiling and light toning primarily concentrated along the edges of the sheets. A few sheets have short centerfold separations at bottom. One of the index pages has a 3" edge tear. The front hinge is perished so the front cover is attached only to the spine. Previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown.
