"Old Maps in Japan",

This is the only English edition of this book of maps published in Japan, first published in Japanese in 1969 by Nanba Matsutaro, Muroga Nobuo and Unno Kazutaka. The English edition was translated by Patricia Murray, and includes full-color images of 93 Japanese maps, four of which are large folding maps. The maps in the English edition are the same as those in the Japanese edition, with each described in the accompanied carto-bibliography by Unno Kazutaka. The book also includes chapters on "The Pleasures of Collecting Old Maps," by Nanba Matsutaro, and "The Development of Cartography in Japan," by Muroga Nobuo. Both chapters include numerous black-and-white illustrations. 204 pp. Hardbound in blue cloth with embossed cover and printed paper spine label, full-color printed dust jacket, and printed card slipcase. A hard to find reference book.
