This striking chart depicts the Battle of Bishops Court (or the Defeat of Thurot), a naval battle between French and English ships during the Seven Years' War. In the Irish Sea, in between small portions of Scotland, Ireland, and the Isle of Man, the chart depicts the six ships involved in the battle: the HMS Pallas, Brilliant, and Aeolus, all under the command of Captain John Elliot, and the Marechal de Belle-Isle, Terpischore, and Blonde, under the command of Privateer Francois Thurot. Thurot would lose an arm and, eventually, his life during the conflict. The chart includes a compass rose capped with a fleur-de-lis.
