This two-volume set is an indispensable reference, one of the most frequently cited here at Old World Auctions. These two volumes are the result of a daunting 15-year Atlas Collation Project that sought to catalogue the individual contents of all the atlases in the British Library pre-dating 1800. In addition to the wide range of terrestrial atlases covered in the first volume, there are also preliminaries, including an introduction and guidance on how to use the reference, nine appendices, and a master list of all the atlases covered over both volumes. Volume II focuses on maritime and celestial atlases, general works, and manuscript atlases. An index CD-ROM is included in the back of the second volume. 1923 pp. Hardbound in red cloth with gilt titles on covers and spines.
