This scene shows a wind-driven mine shaft ventilator being blown by a wind head. The verso shows a scene of two men raising a bucket of water from a well. This engraving was part of Athenasius Kircher's Mundus Subterraneus, which was one of the first books in the study of geology. On a full sheet of text (9 x 14").
