A nice example of 70 tipped-in, wax engraved maps with decorative borders, 16 of which are double-page, contiguous and tipped-in as with earlier atlases. All states and territories are represented with 47 maps of U.S. interest. Other charts include Flags of the World, five thematic charts, types of the Races of Men, several pages of portraits, and a charming improvements of the century page with numerous engravings showing the plow, sewing machine, electric light, wheat thrashing machine, a locomotive, and more. Copyright 1883, but dated 1886 on the cover. Title page, contents, list of the population of cities, index, 198 pp. Hardbound in original brown cloth, with embossed and gilt titling on front.

Condition: A+

The maps are fine. Covers are worn and nearly separated at front with cloth frayed at edges and spine. The condition code is given for the maps only. This lot should be considered a set of maps.
