A nice set of early 19th century maps detailing the country on varying scales. 1. Lower Egypt and the Adjacent Deserts with a Part of Palestine; to which has been added the Nomenclature of the Roman age, La Rochette/Faden, 1802, hand color, 29.3 x 21.2". The map is highly detailed and fully engraved in the deserts to suggest sand and rugged topography. It shows the northern portions centered on the Nile from Atfieh to its mouth and extending across Saudi Arabia to include part of the Holy Land to show Jerusalem and north to Acra. Excellent detail of the Nile and its many branches, roads, caravan routes, oases and more. Seven distance scales and legend with numerous Arabic Names. Very nice original coloring and dark impression. Some roughness at paper edge of lower margin (A).

2. A New Map of Egypt from the Latest Authorities, John Cary, 1805, hand color, 21x 18.7". The map focuses its detail on the course of the Nile with many place names noted from Afsuan or Suene to the mouth. Also good detail along the Red Sea to Emerald Island. A few caravan or desert roads are located as well as the huge Oasis Magna. The large inset "The Delta and Adjacent Parts upon an Enlarged Scale" provides more detail at a scale of approximately 20 miles per inch. Some offsetting visible in blank areas (B+).

3. Carte Hydrographique de la Basse Egypt, Cicq et Dandeleux, 1809, b&w, 34x 22.5". This is a finely engraved and very detailed map from Napoleon's expedition to Egypt that was engraved by Vicq et Dandeleux. The map covers lower Egypt to just south of Cairo with much information in the river basin and out in the deserts including topography by hachure. Nice impression and original margins with some centerfold toning (B+).
