This is a rare view of the ancient Byzantine capital of Constantinople viewed from across the Bosphorus from Scutari. Drawn from Matthaus Merian's famous view of the city, but in a square format, it shows the incredible city skyline. A man and his son with gathering baskets occupy the foreground in the view. The Latin title is at lower right, Byzantium, Turcarum praecipua urbs ad Bosphorum Thracium.
