This fine small pencil and water color work is apparently a self-portrait of the artist sitting on a rock with mountains and trees in the background. His burro is patiently waiting with his reigns on the ground while Rogers works on a sketch. The drawing is signed "W.A. Rogers New York, Dec. 1922." and is probably a sheet from the artist's sketchbook. Roberts was a well-known illustrator for Harper's and other publications of the day. The verso is blank.

The sketch is in very good condition but around the edges is a mat burn from old framing and the lower right corner tips are broken off.
