This group of maps features portions of the coastal areas of Canada. The Atlas Universel was the first atlas to present all the maps on the same scale (1: 1,641,836), with each map covering an area of approximately 20 degrees longitude (from Paris) and 6 degrees of latitude. It was also considered to be the first lithographic atlas ever published. The maps were meant to be joined together to form a huge globe measuring 7.775 meters in diameter. There was only one edition of the atlas, published in 1825-27, and the subscription list shows that only 810 copies were sold. Lot of four that includes the following charts.

Amer. Sep.- No.26. Partie De La Nouvelle Bretagne., (22.6 x 18.7") The southwestern shore of Hudson Bay. Locates Fort Churchill. Churchill is today a tourist destination which is called the "Polar Bear Capital of the World." Lower left tip of corner missing, otherwise very good (B+).
Amer. Sep.- No.27. Partie De La Nouvelle Bretagne., (22.8 x 19.2") The southern portion of Hudson Bay. The location of mines is noted on eastern side of the lake. A few spots (B+).
Amer. Sep.- No.28. Partie Du Labrador., (22.3 x 18.6") Part of the coastline of Labrador to include Ungava Bay and the watershed of the Koksoak River. Also locates Port Manvers and the village of Nain. A few spots and two small areas of foxing in lower margin )B+).
Amer. Sep.- No.3. Baie De Baffin., (22.8 x 19.3") This chart shows a well surveyed coast along the western coast of Greenland. Locates Sandersons Hope, Horn Sound, Allison Bay, Cape York, and Gamble Bay. Extends north roughly as far as Thule. Very nice condition (A).
