Uncommon miniature map of the world from this pocket atlas published by Barent Langenes and Cornelis Claesz. Jodocus Hondius engraved this oval world map based on Ortelius with a huge southern continent providing balance for the world's continents. The map is surrounded in a strapwork border with a Latin quote and Hondius' signature at bottom. On a full sheet (7.7 x 12") of Dutch text. Both Shirley and King date this map 1598, but this sheet is clearly dated 1596 in the publisher's imprint below the map.
