A charming and informative tour guide by James W. Steele describing the journey from Union Depot in Kansas City to Los Angeles, San Diego, or San Francisco on board the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. The book contains information regarding, scenery, history, cliff dwellings, flora, fauna and native inhabitants, and is thoroughly illustrated with numerous engravings showing the landscape and people one might encounter on this journey. Bound in is a foldout Rand McNally & Co.'s Business Atlas Map of the United States, 1891, (20 x 12.8"). The map has printed outline color and shows many place names, roads, and Indian Reservations. There is an Appendix that lists the daily itinerary and also includes a pronunciation and description of Spanish terms. The front and back end papers and preliminary pages contain advertisements. 212pp. 8vo. Hardbound in original yellow cloth covered boards with gilt title on front and spine and decorative touches in black on front.

Condition: A

The map has a short binding tear, the rest of the contents are very good with an occasional finger mark. There is a railroad stamp on the first end paper. The covers have some minor scuffing and soil. The corners are bumped with a small amount of loss.
