The first book, Recueil de Cartes Geographiques Plans, Vues et Medailles de l'Ancienne Grece... authored by Abbe Jean Jacques Barthelemy, contains 31 maps, plans and views, most of them double-page. Barthelemy, who discovered his admiration of Greek antiquity during his travels to Italy, produced this literary work to help introduce Europeans to Greek culture. Although he never visited Greece, his narrative had a tremendous impact on the European and the Greek public. First edition, published in Paris, 1788. 8vo. (8 x 10"). Complete. Title page; 36 pp. V-XLI; plates. Hardbound in original leather with gilt title on raised banded spine. Text and plates good with some foxing and light offsetting. Several ink notations and two bookshop stamps inside front endpaper. Covers are scuffed and shelf worn, hinges are starting and spine is worn with minor loss at extremities. Signatures and binding are sound.

The second book in this lot is, An Historical Text-Book and Atlas of Biblical Geography by Lyman Coleman. Color frontispiece view of Jerusalem, plus six additional maps, one of which is double-page. These maps come with explanations and are in original outline color. Published by Lippincott, Grambo & Co., Philadelphia, 1857. The main body has 155 pages that are divided into two columns of text, each with its own number, from 10-320. Frontis; title page; preface; Table of Contents; List of Maps; plates; textual content. Complete. 8vo. (7.5 x 10.8"). Hardbound in original embossed brown cloth with gilt title on front. Contents have scattered foxing and some offsetting. Covers are shelf worn and damp stained. Front hinge is starting, and spine is soiled but still solid. Binding is sound and tight.
