"Fessae, et Marocchi Regna Africae Celeberr.", Ortelius, Abraham

Superb map of the famed Barbary coast, the Straight of Gibraltar, the Canary Islands and Madera. Ortelius compiled this map from various sources including Gastaldi and Livio Sanuto. The large inset map of the Congo was based on Pigafetta's map of 1591. The map is richly embellished with an elaborate title cartouche, sailing ships and a sea monster. The verso has Latin text and a page number of 118, indicating it is from the 1603 edition.
