"Township Map of Pennsylvania", Thayer & Co.

Beautiful pocket map that folds into original red leather covers. "Population of Pennsylvania" table at upper right lists population by county from the 1840 and 1850 census. Sixty-four counties are listed; the modern counties of Lackawanna, Cameron and Snyder are missing. Several counties are listed as new in the table. The leather covers are heavily embossed with the title in heavy gilt. The original advertising paper label pasted-down to inside front cover lists all maps available from Horace Thayer.

Condition: A

The maps is a fine impression with wonderful, bright hand coloring. A couple light and insignificant spots, and a few fold intersection splits, else fine. The covers are also in very good to fine condition with only a little rubbing at spine and edge.
