A complete and near mint example of this wonderful atlas that features tipped in maps and fancy borders. Complete with 64 wax engraved maps, including 16 double-page maps. All states and territories are represented with 39 maps of U.S. interest. Other charts include Flags of the World, five thematic charts, types of the Races of Men, several pages of portraits, and a most interesting 'improvements of the century' page with numerous engravings showing the plow, sewing machine, electric light, wheat thrashing machine, a locomotive, and more. Copyright of 1883, but dated 1884 on the cover. Title page, contents, list of the population of cities, 12 pp. Hardbound with brown cloth, with deluxe embossing and gilt titling and red fore edge.

Covers slightly rubbed. Maps and all pages are fine with strong, bright impressions and terrific color. End papers with previous owner's name in ink and two small remnants of pasted paper, probably a newspaper article.
