This is a larger version of Bellin's fine map of South America than the more common version prepared for Prevost's history of voyages. The map provides nice detail of rivers, lakes, mountain ranges and settlement with a large section of the interior of Brazil left mostly blank. The chart includes an ornamental title cartouche designed with leaf, fruit & scroll motifs, and a compass rose with fleur-de-lis motif.
