This large, decorative map of the continent is a foundation piece for any South American collection. The coastlines are well detailed but the interior is filled with spurious information. Several rivers (including the Amazon and Paraguay) all have their source in the Lago de los Xarayes. The mythical Parime Lacus dominates the interior of Guyana. The map is richly embellished with ships and sea monsters in the oceans and vignettes of villages and animals on the continent. The large, uncolored, title cartouche features natives and indigenous animals. Second state with Jansson's imprint.

References: Van der Krogt (Atlantes) #8900 1:B.

Condition: B

Faint scattered foxing. Original color with minor oxidation of the green. Backed with light Japanese tissue to stabilize oxidation and repair a short tear at bottom centerfold. Small section of top margin trimmed, not affecting map.

Estimate: $700 - $900
