One of the finest celestial charts from the golden age of Dutch cartography. The map presents the ancient Greek constellations of the Northern sky in traditional classical mythological form. Richly engraved in the baroque style with an elaborate cloud background filled with putti. Originally published in 1660 by Johannes Jansson of Amsterdam. It was reprinted by Jansson in 1661, and again in 1708 by Gerard Valk and Petrus Schenk, who added their names to the plates. Cellarius' maps are the most coveted of celestial maps and this is a fine example in superb original color.
