The Hayden Survey of 1873 was commissioned to survey the land and resources of large sections of the Intermountain West. Ultimately, Hayden's survey was important in a number of ways. In addition to mapping the West, it provided a wealth of knowledge about the region's natural resources, demystified the region, and spurred westward migration. This map details wagon roads, trails, locations of ruins, towns, ranches and springs on a scale of 4 miles to 1 inch.
