"Campaigns of the 36th Infantry Division in World War II - Campaigns in Italy", Anon.

This rare pictorial map chronicles the 36th Infantry Division's campaign along the western coast of Italy from September 9, 1943 to June 26, 1944. Beginning with their landing at Paestum and the Battle of Salerno, the map depicts the Lone Star Division's journey northward to Piombino, where they were relieved. Battles are noted at Salerno, San Pietro, Cassino, Rapido River, Velletri, Rome (identified as "First Axis Capital Captured"), and Orbetello. Charming illustrations dot the landscape, including an Italian kid asking for "Choon Gum? Chocolata?," a surrendering Nazi, and an infantryman on a small bike. Both the title cartouche and the pamphlet cover feature the arrowhead insignia of the division. The compass rose incorporates a northward-pointing knife. Originally organized during World War I from units from the Texas and Oklahoma National Guard, the 36th Infantry Division was an all-Texan unit in World War II. It is likely that this pamphlet was issued to members of the 36th Infantry Division as a souvenir before they returned to United States.
