This book contains 89 plates featuring over 130 bird's-eye plans of French fortifications and fortified cities. The plans are listed alphabetically in an index at the end of the volume and include possessions outside of France, such as New Orleans, Quebec, Louisbourg, and Cayenne. The title page features the angel of Fame. 12mo. Title page; 89 plates; 2-page index. Hardbound in contemporary mottled calf with gilt tooling on covers and spine, marbled endpapers, and all edges red.


Condition: A

Impressions are crisp and pages are clean and bright. Plates 70 and 71 have light dampstains. The covers and spine are in very good condition with a few small abrasions.
