Unusual miniature atlas comprised of 414 maps and a 20-page street index providing a thorough examination of the borough's civil planning and design. The maps show a block by block layout with every lot noted. Legend identifies various types of building construction, i.e. brick, stone or frame. It identifies saloons and hotels with liquor licenses, stables, greenhouses, streets, sewers, railroads, trolley lines, block numbers and their lots, fire hydrants and more. The atlas uses hand coloring to identify the opened streets, and to differentiate the types of building construction. Published by the firm of E. Belcher Hyde, Manhattan, an outfit with a reputation for its meticulous research and great accuracy in surveying and mapping for the use of fire insurance companies. Hardbound in original burgundy cloth covered flexible boards with gilt title on front. 8vo.

Condition: A

Contents very good to fine with some pleasant age toning and an occasional finger mark. Front cover starting to separate, and the upper corner of the back cover has been partially folded back, creating a crease. Otherwise an excellent example of this difficult to find atlas.
