A nice example of Dufour's work that shows a pre-Gadsden Purchase boundary with Mexico and evolving western territorial borders. The west is composed of only California and the oversized territories of Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and the North West Territory. The map is notable for depicting an early Mormon settlement (Mormonfort) along the eastern shore of the Great Salt Lake. Alaska is Russian Territory. Engraved by Desbuissoins.
