Widely recognized as one of the Blaeu family's most ornamental productions, this map is an exquisite example of the art of mapmaking. The map is centered on Frankfurt and the river Main; the heart of the modern German state of Hesse. The map provides a wealth of information on the countryside including towns, villages, castles, fortifications, bridges, gallows, mills and inns. Across the top are the allegorical figures of Justice, Wisdom, Harmony, and Peace. Surrounding the map is an incredible border made up of 36 coats of arms of the local nobility.

Condition: A

There is some expert paper restoration (leaf casting method) in the blank borders and just entering the bottom of the map. The centerfold has been reinforced. The conservation work was very skillfully accomplished and the map is now in near fine condition.
