Stunning map of the classical region of Thrace, encompassing the southern Balkans from the Sea of Marmara to the Bosphorus with most of present-day Bulgaria and Romania up the western shore of the Black Sea to the mouth of the Danube River. Ortelius based the map in part on the work of Jacob Gastaldi. Beautifully decorated with a very elaborate title cartouche, ships and sea monsters. Latin text on verso. This is the second state of the plate with additional stippling around the names in the seas, published in the 1603 edition.

References: Van den Broecke #159.
