This is the most extensive cartographic reference devoted exclusively to Texas maps from the map collection of the Texas State Archives. About 1000 maps are described in this well-established work. Entries provide date or period covered, the title of the map, some sort of description of contents, Archive number and dimensions. Details of coloring, topography, Native Americans, military forts are all given, along with the formal map descriptions. Otherwise the amount and type of information varies. There is also interesting background information about the history of the territory or the map described. 178pp. Hardbound, green cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Martino reprint edition.
