The atlas is a very early 1866 edition as the maps generally are from the 1864 and 1865 editions. The map "California, with Utah, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona" still shows Arizona controlling the southern tip of Nevada and the old New Mexico Territory county configurations in the northern part. Contains about 60 maps. Following plates defective: Emblems of All Nations, Europe, Ireland, Austria/Turkey (loss); Western Hemisphere and frontispiece (tears); MA/CT/RI, NY, KY/TN, WA/OR & MN (split on fold); Peninsular Campaign (trimmed to neatline at bottom); Texas and Mexico (missing).
