Stunning map of the classical region of Thrace, encompassing the southern Balkans from the Sea of Marmara to the Bosphorus with most of present-day Bulgaria and Romania up the western shore of the Black Sea to the mouth of the Danube River. Ortelius based the map in part on the work of Jacob Gastaldi. Beautifully decorated with one of the most elaborate title cartouches, ships and sea monsters. Latin text on verso.

Old color, with only part of cartouche colored. Tear in bottom margin extending just to border, closed with framer's tape on verso.
