First is described by Tooley as "a subject index of facts about maps, to provide answers to queries and explanations of terms and materials employed." It provides information on important mapmakers, places, explorers, notable voyages and gives notes on collecting, coloring and dating. 144 pp, illustrations in B&W. Octavo, hard bound in blue buckram, gilt lettering on cover. Second is a condensed volume of information of principal mapmakers and publishers and their work from earliest times to the 19th century. This revised edition has a new general introduction and updates the lists of authorities at the ends of chapters. A standard reference for maps published in England. Originally published in 1949. Sixth Edition reprinted & revised, 140 pp, 63 illustrations in B&W. Hard bound in brown buckram with dust jacket.
