Remarkable documents published by order of the Legislature of Maine arguing for the construction of a railroad from Bangor to "some good harbor" of eastern Nova Scotia to shorten the transit time between the U.S. and Britain. Signed by seven prominent citizens, the document makes a good argument for the shorter sail followed by a railroad trip to the States. Lots of backup data and information, 24 pp. Large (9"x34") fold-out map [Map Showing the Plan for Shortening the Time of Passage between New York and London] on thin paper shows the Northeast and sailing distances to Liverpool and Galway Bar in support the argument. Rare. Paper covers.
