Engraved by Petrus Kaerius for the pocket-sized edition of Mercator's famous atlas. This charming map follows the Ortelius/Teixeira type for the islands with an east-west orientation of Honshu and exaggerated size of the Noto Peninsula. Korea is shown as an island, although Hondius added a notation to the effect that is was uncertain if the region was an island or a peninsula. Strapwork title and distance scale cartouches.
