Huge double hemispheric, thematic, world map printed on cotton fabric. Strong, brilliant colors are used to show the concentrations of different religious peoples. Fine use of tonal shading shows density of population within each group (Protestants, Greek & Eastern Churches, Jews, Roman Catholics, Mohammedans & Heathens). The Heathens are shown throughout much of the world and are by far the largest group at 838 million. Fancy titling, population tables and scroll work at corners. Printed in the last known year of the Colton's mapmaking business and just one year before the death of Joseph Colton at age 93. Complete and untrimmed with original cord stitched in at top for hanging. An exceptional map and artifact, the likes of which we've not seen or heard of before. Printed in color on polished cotton cloth composed of ten sheets stitched together prior to printing.

Condition: B

The fabric is in very fine condition with no rotting, wear or damage. Some areas of minor stains, but these flaws are small and barely noticed in the context of such an unusual map.
