This lovely small map is based on Blaeu's map of the Kingdom of Naples, which was in turn based on a 1620 map by Geovanni Antonio Magini. At the time, Naples was a part of the Spanish dominion of the Habsburg Empire in Europe, as indicated by the Spanish arms at upper right. The map is flanked with panels of provincial armorials at each side and further embellished with sailing ships, a compass rose, and the title cartouche which is flanked by mermaids and incorporates the royal herald.
