This vellum leaf is from a Book of Hours, printed by Philippe Pigouchet, for Simon Vostre. It is a beautiful example of early printing with the text including fine engravings designed by the Master of Anne de Bretagne in the Gothic style. The recto is almost completely filled with a large scene depicting the Holy Family's flight into Egypt before the massacre of the innocents. Three lines of text are below with a large initial and three smaller ones. The verso is nearly as beautiful with several smaller scenes including Jesus banishing the vendors from the temple and exercising a demon from a small boy. The text is from Psalms 109 and 112 and includes numerous illuminated initials in red, blue and gold.
