Rarely seen map that covers the region between the Yellowstone River and Santa Fe and east to Fort Armstrong on the Mississippi River and Fort Smith on the Arkansas River. Shows the Santa Fe Trail, springs, rivers, and the boundaries of the Indian reserves (shown in outline color). The report is important as it provided for the Dept. of Indian Affairs, regulated trade and intercourse with the Indians and established the Western Territory providing security and protection for emigrants and the Indian tribes therein. Clearly shows the boundary with "Spanish Territory."
