Set of 3 volumes. An excellent compendium of the tumultuous events in Kansas during the Pierce and Buchanan presidencies. These volumes begin in December 1853, when Senator Dodge of Iowa introduced a bill to organize the Nebraska territory. The issue dominated the Session as well as future Congresses, and paved the way to the Civil War. Included are debates on the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, enactment of the Kansas Nebraska Bill, and the fierce pro- and anti-slavery speeches. Also included is a bit on the Gadsden Purchase, and several speeches by Sam Houston. Marbled boards with leather spines.
