An uncommon map of the continent. It is based on De Wit's map of 1680 and retains both the geography (with all its fictitious details) and decorative cartouche. Gone though are the other decorative elements (wildlife, ships and sea monsters), reflecting the newer style of the 18th century. The colorful cartouche includes Moorish traders, Black Africans, a child riding a large elephant and two lions reclining on the title block. This map does not appear to have been included in an atlas, as there is no evidence of a binding strip.
