Lovely copperplate engraved map, with original outline coloring. The salient feature is the gigantic, and entirely mythical Sea the West, near modern Seattle (connected to the Pacific by the Straits of Juan de Fuca and Martin d' Aguilar. "New Albion" is on the southwest shore of this great inland sea, which inundates virtually all of modern British Columbia and Alberta. In present-day Alaska and northern Canada is a network rivers and lakes indicating the possibility of a NORTHWEST PASSAGE connecting "Baye de Baffin" to "Archipel St. Lazare" in the Pacific. "Louisiane" extends all the way from the Mississippi River to the Pacific. Excellent title cartouche, full margins.
