A matching pair of ancient maps showing different zones, each flanked by columns of French text. The first map is divided by the Tropic of Cancer, equator and Tropic of Capricorn. The second uses the same divisions but notes climate including the torrid zone (center), two temperate zones, and two glacial zones. Surrounded by a decorative border frame entwined with garlands of leaves and flowers, Buy de Mornas was the Royal Geographer to the King in Paris and a respected historian with an interest in scientific matters pertaining to the earth and the planets.
