Heinrich Rudolf Schinz was a teacher of medicine and natural history in Zurich. He produced a series of illustrated books on natural history from 1824-52 on humans, mammals, birds, amphibians and fish. This set of prints were lithographed by Karl Joseph Brodtmann and published in Naturhistorische Abbildungen der Saeugethiere, Schinz' volume on mammals, which included humans from non-European countries.
